Lawrence "Larry" Duff is a friend of Ted's who always has accidents whenever the latter calls him, having been the one who gave him the mobile phone as a Christmas gift in the first place. Ted describes him as being "tremendous fun".
He was portrayed by Irish actor Tony Guilfoyle.
Accidents[]
Larry's accidents are foretold by Ted reaching for his phone to contact him at the worst possible moment.
Larry, who leads a somewhat exciting lifestyle for a priest, has suffered terrible catastrophes as a result in the following episodes:
- Hell - his first appearance, where he drives off a cliff.
- Tentacles of Doom - where the priest gets skewered by a blindfolded knife thrower.
- Cigarettes and Alcohol and Rollerblading - losing £10,000 in a game show.
- New Jack City - accidentally clasping his ear with a stapler after mistaking for his phone while arranging a pyramid of playing cards. The shock causes him to fall into the cards.
- A Christmassy Ted - once when he is skiing on his Christmas holiday, suffering a broken arm, (he's wearing the number 13 on his chest) and again when he is trapped under an avalanche caused by Jack banging a door loudly.
Sometimes, there are exceptions where Larry gets into trouble before Ted calls him:
- Old Grey Whistle Theft - being arrested with three other priests and investigated for smuggling machine guns to terrorists. He is released later on as the culprit, Father William, is shot dead by a soldier upon trying to escape.
- Flight into Terror - getting trampled upon by donkeys at the Glasrowan Donkey Derby. He is already on the ground and covered in muddy hoof prints by the time his cellphone is ringing; he tries to reach it, but is unable to when a second wave of donkeys approaches.
In one instance, The Plague, he gets mauled by a dozen Rottweilers, having given up on the idea of owning rabbits. This happens after he finishes his call with Ted and then teases one of the dogs.
Although Duff gets trampled on, assaulted and beaten a lot, by the time of his next appearance he is always in rude health, showing no signs of his most recent injuries. Following his final appearance, his fate remains unknown.
